Re: [www.keralites.net] Real democracy and 'Nokkukuli'

No body answered to my question. My question was is nokkukuli

a kind of retirement benefit or not'.All those who have worked accepts gratuity and pension at the time of retirement. In other words is it not a kind of 'Nokkukuli'.It is for the past work performed and not for doing any thing that these amounts are paid.Even DGP Rathore is paid pension from tax payers money. All other arguments are irrelevant.

Verghese sir,fly overs in Delhi are built by Central Govt by appropriating tax collected ie Income tax, custom duty, central excise, service tax etc.State Govts don't have that kind of money. Not only fly overs all the Bhavans and other facilities available in delhi is not available elsewhere in the country because Delhi is the capital of India. Now in the name of common wealth games more developement work is going to take place shortly. What is the amount involved in scam in CWG? Is it 12000/crore or more? Please don't compare Delhi with other part of India.

very interesting subject and discussions.after reading these few mails,i think it is worthy to write some of my experiences in god's own country.
there was a "thandan" who pluked cocunuts from my land.he was too old and died one day a natural death.his son was educated and not interested to climb coccunut trees.he used to bring one of his relative and both of them took as much coccunuts as their birth right.we were helpless to comment.one day my daughter brought another man and collected the coccunuts in her car and started to her house.suddenly a group of nokku koolees including the one who used to bring steppini was also there.anyhow my daughter called police and escaped unhurt.
i have some paddy fields in upper kuttanad.there was a man and two pairs of buffallows used to plough the field.i tried my best to use power tillers.due to objection from the abouve man i could never use any tillers.now the man and buffallows died but there are no agricultural workers.
we had a farmer head to look after our farm land .he was well paid and provided with all helps for him and his family.when he was 65 years old he went to his party office and applied for his retirement benifits from us.after negotiations we paid about 20000 rs in 1985.now the farm is a waste land because no body has the courage to do farming.
to rennovate my house one truck of bricks came inside my compound and as per labour law the supplier can offload the bricks inside the compound.but the nokku koolies told us "if you and family members are offloading no problem".ultimately i paid nokkukooli.
i am basically from alappuzha and afraid to go back and settle in god's own country.

No one denies that Kerala is a lovely place to stay. The issue is the extraction of money for doing no work. The very term NOKUKULI means LABOR FEE for JUST LOOKING at some one else do the work. Such a thing does not take place in Mumbai or any other state.
Modernization and technological advancement will definietly make certain work reduntant. Such workers normally diverisify into other fields of work. Instead these workers are extracting money from people for no work done and terrorising law abiding people.
Only if people protest will such a thing change.

I have been observing the discussion in this group about democracy and 'NOKKUKULI'.I have a different view from the views expressed so far.A gentleman on Sunday a closed holiday forced ashopkeeper to open the shop for cement and shopkeeper charged Rs2/ extra per bag. What ever shopkeeper said he believed andpaid the extra money with out any protests or complaints.Another gentleman shifted to Mumbai fearing head load workers of Kerala.

What is' nokkukuli'?Everybody who works knows that when they loose their jobthe company they work compensates.Compensation is given by the owner of the company.Owner make up the loss from his products. This is an internationally established fact.Like this many companies introduced automation and many head load workers lost their job. Also various factors are there head load workers lost their earnings.Since headload workers are not treated as regular employees they are not paid any compensation.'Nokkukuli' is a very very small .1%compensation for the work lost.'Nokkukuli' is charged from those owners whose work has been considerably reduced by automation and other factors.Kerala has a much efficient police and complaints can be registered if any individual is unnecessarly harassed for this.

I pity for the gentleman who shifted to Mumbai fearing head load workers of Kerala. Is he aware of the life in Mumbai? There are more than 2500deaths in local trains and many murders in a year.A malayali living for generations is not treated a Mumbaikar and treated asan outsider.Business even a small beedi shop can not be run with out paying extortion.

Kerala is the best place to live.It is the no1 state in India.Best in education, health care, highest per capita income[Rs 63000/with out taking gulf remittance] and well maintained law and order. Those people who lived outside Kerala knows about thisand envy the people of Kerala
