Kasargod: Congo Fever – State-wide Alert Sounded

Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (SP)
Kasargod, Jan 22: The state health department has asked all the health department units in Kerala to exercise maximum care about the likely spread of a new disease, 'Congo Feve. "The early symptom of the disease is pain in the stomach. As the fever spreads to the brain, it can be dangerous. In case of early detection and treatment, this fever can be brought under control," it has opined.

This alert has come after a report was received about the death of three persons including a nurse from Kerala in Ahmedabad recently. During the investigations, it was found that all these three people had been affected by Congo Fever. The disease comes in the wake of a spate of diseases like chikungunya, dengue, and swine flu, which had spread panic in the state in the recent past.

Asha, a native of Pattanantitta Otara in the state, had died at Ahmedabad, and Congo virus had been found in her blood. The disease, known as 'Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever' in medical parlance, was originally detected in Africa. The fever has of late, been spreading in Asian countries.

The symptom of fever is found in the body within three days of the virus entering the body. The state health department has requested the centre to undertake a thorough research and measures to check the spread of the disease all over the country.
