The revolution of Jasmine
by Andre Luis Aquino
The Internet was once only used by readers of jokes or messages in PPS (Power Point) "sugar water" now experiencing a new phase, the recent demonstrations for democracy in the Islamic world have exploded over the internet. Social networking and mobile phones boosted the popular revolt against oppression. Tunisia overthrew its dictator Ebidin Zine Ben Ali, after 24 years in power, the revolution was called "Jasmine Revolution" in social networks. The name chosen was that fragrant white flower because it is a symbol of Tunisia, and why they mean to the purity and sweetness of life in tolerance.
According to a classical Arabic proverb, a flood begins with a drop, there is an agitation in the Arab world, nations traditionally ruled by tyrants, now is the time of Egypt whose people are willing to depose the dictator in power Mubarack more than thirty years. The Internet began to be an ally of the Egyptians against the Mubarak regime with the mobilizations of April 6, 2008, when a general strike was called in protest over high food prices and against the administration of President of Egypt. Since then, has become a fundamental tool for the opponents of Mubarak, who found in blogs and social networks a platform for expression that were not in the country.
The Internet is a shared experience and community creation, independent of censoring or regulation, so its use and expansion are changing the world, people are increasingly willing to say what they think and inform yourself. When the world seemed lost and that everything here comes a revolution, the revolution of Jasmine is the beginning of construction of a garden of freedom, but a garden that will change this world.
