You have to take up the matter directly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Delhi.
Get Media attention to your problems.Almost all Tv channels in India run programmes championing the cause of NRIs.
Please remember the logic of a developing country like Maldives; insisting on spending the money earned in the country being spent there only.
Wishing you best of luck,

Our Government or the Indian missions overseas, which is supposed to help us, expatriates have no time for anything. Please don't disturb them with these type of petty issues. Contact them only if you have some proposal, which helps them earn some money or votes. This is not an issue of expatriates in maldives only, but anywhere in the world. Your duty is just to work hard and send the money to India so that they can lead a worry free comfortable life. So please don't disturb them with these issues.
A fellow Indian expatriate from Saudi Arabia.

Dear friends, Its with great grief and hope i bestow all of your kind attention to the recent happenings in the indian community in Maldives.we know nobody wants to separate from their kith and kin but needs force him to seek opportunites in foreign land. Geographically Maldives is scattered in indian ocean as nearly 200 inhabited islands. in most of the islands the main conveyance is waterway only. some of the islands are deserted without any basic civic amenity. WE have lot of problems here , but we also cant complain much because it is our option to continue here. But Its true that those people who are struggling in Maldives as doctors teachers ,nurses and other contract workers are not at all a matter before our respected government representatives. Last year Bank of Maldives blocked the access of international visacard of all expatriats. it was a great inconvenience for those people who were not in the capital city Male, and other few well developed islands. when this matter brought to the attention of our Honourable Indian high commission and our deligates, they were helpless as it was the internal matter of a foreign bank. its ok .But recently the decision taken by our State Bank Of India really gave a disaterous blow on the dreams of poor indian. last year itself they limited 1000 USD as the amount one person can sent to india. But now that is again limited as 500 USD per mnth. the exchange rate also will lesser than the current international ratings. they have their own excuses and policies. We Are getting the salary in currency of maldives but when we approach to western union or any other money sending institutions we are forced to remit the amount in US Dollars. so the only sort to sent money is through sbi .in this juncture we need the support of all of you. The matter is already published in mathrubhoomi daily
