The meeting of the representatives of political parties have decided for widening the national high ways to a width of 45 mts.since central government refused to keep the width of the roads at the level of 30 mts. Besides the future development the roads are already facing heavy traffic and many accidents occur because of unscientific laying of roads. Now in the month of November, the Vallarpadam container terminal is going to be in operation. It is expected that at least 1000 containers may have to move by road. When the container trucks move in the road they move in a convoy. At present if we happen to be in a car behind a container truck, there is no space for overtaking and we have to simply follow the truck at the speed they move. After November the situation is going to be worse. In many places they have already acquired land for widening the roads to a 45 mts. level. But there are bottlenecks with narrow stretch. The decision of the kerala govt. to widen the roads to 45 mts. level is wise and the central govt has agreed to compensate the people who are displaced. They have already handed over the roads to contractors for starting the work. |
