Get ready for speedy Metro ride to airport

Airport-bound Delhiites are gearing up for fastest and most comfortable ride in India's first privately run Metro. The much-awaited Delhi Metro Airport Express Line is going to be opened for commuters by middle of August. Trains will run at a speed of about 120 km per hour. Boarding at New Delhi

Station, one can reach Indira Gandhi Airport in  20 minutes at a cost of Rs 150.
And if the Reliance Infrastructure, which would operate the Metro service on the Airport Express Line, is to be believed, the fastest trains will hardly face any technical snag like the over head electrification (OHE) problem, which affects DMRC's Metro service.
"The trains have certain unique features which will automatically stop them incase of incidents such as fires and obstruction on tracks. Besides, the possibilities of OHE is very less as two-third of the train track is tunnelled and all wires are covered," said a technical officer, Reliance Infrastructure.
For air travellers, airline and baggage check-in counters are proposed to be available at the New Delhi Station, Dhaula Kuan Metro and Shivaji Terminus station. But what is bothering the service provider is that it is yet to get queries from any airlines that are supposed to set up their kiosks at the Metro stations.
"So far no airlines have approached us for opening their counters. If the airlines do not turn up soon we will start our service without the services like baggage booking," said a senior officer of the business development wing of Reliance Infrastructure.
However, K.P. Maheswari, senior executive vice-president of the company, said, "We have taken up the matter with department of civil aviation and expecting the airlines to approach us soon," he said.
"A total of 65 station controllers and train operators are undergoing training through train simulator procured from Spain and signaling simulator procured from Germany," said Vikas Verma, Business Development Manager.
