Friend,
Your emirates id expired on 17th July 2010 means, your residence visa might also have been expired and you had renewed the visa, I believe. ID validity directly linked to the residence visa validity.
Once your residence visa is renewed, you need to approach any Emirates Identity authority office nearer to you to get the card renewed. It is not renewed, other words issued fresh.
You have to take your original passport & the expired ID card. Pay AED.320 and new card is issued in a weeks' time.
Durning renewal process, no finger print scan is taken. your photo and electronic signature.
After your vacation, peacefully do this ID work as it is in no way affect your travel.
Hope you understood.
