Let me thank Mr. ICS Menon for opening a subject where in every RIGHT thinking citizen of a country has his own concerns. I have been keeping quite for the last 3 or 4 days but I am forced to open my mind to you all. You all given your personal opinions and let me put my own opinion in this regard. As far as my opinion is concerned "NO body", not even the Muthu Pattar, the father of Lord Maha Vishnu can set right Indian Democracy. The reason is very clear. The leaders of our Freedom Fighters through their ignorance selected a system of Democracy by which nobody can present a good governance in this country with this system and only it can help to breed corruption. In 60 years of our freedom what happened. It is the duty of every true citizen of our country to do a soul Searching on this subject; Corruption is in its Rampart. Can you point out one dept. which is free from corruption. Even the corruption got into Private Sector also. It has come to the state that if you have few rowdies with you you can do anything with the help of political support. What a Governance.
Mr. Binu Paul has asked whether anybody can show a 100% perfect rule any where in the world. Of course No body can find out or spell out 100% perfect Governance but definitely 1,000 times better Governance in the world. I may go to the extend that you CANNOT find any other democracy in this world as bad as Indian Democracy. You are afraid of few Military officers becoming Millionaire but what happened now? Can you find one MP for the name sake who is NOT a Billionaire. According to the latest report except Railway Minister, all has declared that they have few miilions as their asset. I one declares his asset a million, definitely he will have a billion. That is the condition. Here I will quote few sentences from the book of Kerala leader & the Leader opposion in the First Parliament in 1952, Mr AK Gopalan.
"The first General Election to Indian Parliament was conducted in January 1952 with great fun and fanfare and it has instilled great hopes and enthusiasm on all of us in this country. The outcome of the result of it was a great blow to them who have tried to suppress the aspirations and hopes of our Communist Party of India. Even though most of our leaders were either in jail or in under ground, the party shown an unexpected performance and got a thumping victory.
I was contesting from Kannur Parliamentary constituency as a member of Communist Party of India and my main opponent was no other than Mr. CK Govindan Nair, the then State President of Indian National Congress. When the result came, I have won the election with a majority of 90,000 votes, me voting 1,64,000 votes and for CKG only 74,000 votes. Thus I was elected with an unexpected thumping majority. The faith the people of Kannur has reposed on me was nothing but a declaration of their faith and acceptance of our Communist Party of India in general and me in particular.
Thus Communist Party of India and its allies came out as the Second Largest Group in the Parliament and in the state assemblies. They secured 31 seats in the Parliament and 239 seats in the State Assemblies. Not only that , they have won 34% of their contested seats in Parliament and 44% of contested seats in Assemblies in the whole of country. We, the members of the second largest group, started functioning as the only Opposition group which was recognised in the parliament. I was chosen as the leader of Opposition in the Parliament. The responsibilities and duties of the Opposition Leader in the Parliament was not that easy as every body thought to be on those days. Really speaking, I never expected this that the heavy responsibility of Opposition Leader will fall on my shoulder. Even I doubted whether will I be able to fullfil those aspirations and responsibilities shouldered on me as Opposition Leader. But I manged to collect all my confidence in me by getting the promise of support from all my collegues in the Parliament. It was all a new life, new circumstances, new situations & new connections and all were unfamiliar to me till that time.
But to my surprise, what I have observed there was not a place or platform for fulfilling the aspirations and expectations of the poor masses of this great country for which one member was elected, but all opportunities and situations for a Member of Parliament to get carried away by Corruption and Nepotism.
What I have seen there was that every Member of Parliament gets, free air and train Travels in First Class for him and his family, a very cosy room with all comforts and luxury as office in Parliament building, plenty of money more than one's needs and expectations, a large residential accomodation and to top it all no much responsibilities worth mentioning to carry out.
Every day there used to be a garden dinner or tea party hosted by either the President or the Vice President or the Prime Minister or the Embassies of other countries. All these parties are exclusively for creating a background for making friendship with the people, either male or female of higher status of the society and dignatories. Over and above, there used to be State Dinners hosted in honour of the visits of Heads of States, such as Chou En Lai, Bulganin, Dullas & Marshall Tito. These are the golden opportunities to mix up, shake hands and strike deals with great leaders and their group members.
In the other side at residence, innumerable people coming to Delhi from all over the country to meet, discuss and submit their grievances and petitions, waiting to get an opportunity to take an appointment at the gate of the Member. So a Member of Parliament has got every chance of being spoiled by the evils of society such as a sense of absolute power, luxury and popularity. What else a member needs to develop an ego in him and get carried away to be trapped in corruption and nepotism?
As far as I am concerned, I am coming from a different situations and living conditions. A loyal Communist Party worker, who does not have a thatched hut as shelter or a spare clothe to change and have no money to travel or even for a cup of black tea and a soul cursed and humiliated by the so called members of society. His only aim is to work for the uplift of the poor worker in the society, improve the working and living conditions of them. For a person like me, coming from such conditions, can be an easy prey to get attracted by these evils and slipped down into it.
Now there are two things started bothering me much.
Firstly by remaining in such conditions, whether will I be able to contribute anything to the aspirations and expectations of the society for which I was elected to the Parliament ?
Secondly, after 5 years of such life in Parliament, will I be able to come out of it without getting influenced by the evils of these well structured corrupted life?
His statement is answer for all our doubts..
When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit
from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others.
