Re: [www.keralites.net] World cancer day 4th Feb.

Dear Roopesh,

Thanks for that great message, appreciate it.

In the absence of any proven vaccinations and sure-shot medicines, mankind is helpless in front of 'cancer'.
The only practical hope we have is life-style altering measures.  When development and modernity are equated with pleasure, things do go wrong; may be the price we have to pay.

I am unsure if " alcohol in moderation " is right / beneficial or wrong / harmful ".  There are no specific anti-cancer elements identified in wine / alcohol.
The amount of anti-oxidents from alcohol is negligible compared to that from gooseberry ( nellikka ) or guava ( perakka ) !  Then why we do not forget to mention alcohol always ? Its the pleasurable aspect ( not seen in fruits ! ) of alcohol .  ( please do not forget that the sugar substitute was introduced into the market without proper research or data and did successfully multi-billion dollar business all over the world; only to find lately that it is more injurious than sugar molecules !  This was only possible through powerful people media among lay persons until it became a style to add sugar substitute instead of sugar )

With kind regards.

Das

This mail dedicated to World Cencer Day: 4th February 2011.

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

The WHO observes February 4 each year as World Cancer Day to spread awareness among people.

It is distressing that even in 2011, people are dying unnecessarily from cancers that could be prevented through maintaining a healthy weight, diet, physical activity and other lifestyle factors,

Tobacco kills millions of smokers every year, and tobacco-related lung cancers also kill hundreds of thousands of people who don't smoke but have been exposed to it second-hand.

There isn't a magic bullet to cure all forms of cancer, but we have the opportunity and the obligation to protect people from developing cancer wherever possible

With the help of International Union Against Cancer (UICC), the WHO tries to aware people how the disease could be tackle and cured.

According to the survey, the 70 percent deaths occurred due to Cancer every year globally.

The motive behind to celebrate World Cancer Day is to plan the strategy against cancer and how it could be controlled.

The WHO also invites suggestions to prevent such death especially in undeveloped and developing countries. Preventing cancer and raising quality of life for cancer patients are recurring themes.

This year's theme, "Cancer can be prevented too", focuses on simple measures to prevent cancer such as:
no tobacco use, a healthy diet and regular exercise, limited alcohol use, protection against cancer-causing infections.
