Dear Friends,

Pondicherry and Delhi are Union Territories.

But rather than the other union territories, Pondicherry and New Delhi enjoy the status of having their own government and chief minister like other states. Sill New Delhi and Pondicherry remains as Union Territories.

How many states are there in India? Is it 31 or 28???????

Not only to the below message but also to a number of articles I have seen the number of states are mentioned as 31. I can't understand being Indians   why this happens to us.

Number of States in India: 28

National Capital Territory: 1 (New Delhi)

Number of Union Territories: 6
