Dear Pradeep,   Your friend is ignorant and is misguiding you. SIVA - PARVATHY represents the family concept in Hindu Philosophy.  Hence it is often refered as SIVA KUDUMBAM, which also includes Sree Ganesh and Sree Murugan - denoting the perfect family.  There is nothing wrong in keeping the photo at home and worshipping it.   Good Luck!   B.
