The Commonwealth Games 2010 from Delhi, India began yesterday with a spectacular opening ceremony that India should be proud of. All the worries about the organization and facilities were forgotten with the amazing sights and sounds of the ceremony

Commonwealth Games 2010: A memorable start

So, it's under way and, using a memorable turn of phrase from a colleague, India soared over the first Commonwealth Games hurdle by producing a vibrant and polished opening ceremony with a mass singing of Jai Ho at the end it would be hard to ever forget.

An audience of 60,000 then crammed into the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium for the spectacular ceremony.

The crowd and the 6,000 athletes from 71 countries were entertained by a mass of performers including 1,000 drummers.

Delhi CWG will be experience of a lifetime: Prince Charles

NEW DELHI: Prince Charles said on Sunday that the Delhi Commonwealth Games will be an "experience of a lifetime" as he inaugurated the 19th edition of the international sporting event. 

"I send my best wishes (for the Games) which I am sure will be an experience of a lifetime. Madam president and distinguished guests, I declare the 19th Commonwealth Games open," Charles said. 

After recieving the Queen's baton from India's world wrestling champion Sushil Kumar, Charles said he was very "pleased" to represent her at the "splendid" opening ceremony.
