Environmental Photographer Of The Year 2010 Winner
A picture of an unprecedented congregation of Munkiana Devil Rays in Baja California Sur has won Florian Schulz the prestigious 2010 title of The Environmental Photographer of the Year. Organised by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), the Environmental Photographer of the Year has exceeded all expectations, receiving over 4,500 entries from photographers in 97 countries in just its fourth year. That's a record breaking rise in entries of 93 percent from 2009, with this year seeing the first entries from countries such as Tajikistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mongolia, Swaziland, Palestine, Latvia and Bolivia.
FLORIAN SCHULZ Born in Germany, Florian Schulz (34) is a professional nature and wildlife photographer with a vision of broad horizons. Through skillfully, artistic photography, he is in the constant search for breathtaking images that inspire individuals to take action in the protection of large endangered ecosystems. � Florian believes that partnering with conservation organizations can greatly enrich an environmental campaign that aims to protect a threatened ecosystem.� With such alliances, he aims to create awareness and empower people to take action towards protecting our natural heritage. While shooting for his second corridors project, Florian has given a high priority to the Arctic, because of the urgency to protect it against oil development. In 2010 Florian teamed up with Earthjustice and Patagonia to launch the visual environmental campaign "Visions of the Arctic" against oil development in the Arctic. |
