[www.keralites.net] Bending Coffee Shop

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

With a Starbucks on virtually ever street corner these days, just how does a small coffee shop stand out from the crowd? Well, if you're D'Espresso, you hire nemaworkshop, a team of architects and designers, to create the most mind-bending cafe in New York!

The client approached nemaworkshop with their first espresso bar location and the ambition to build an espresso empire. For their second shop, on Madison in New York, "nemaworkshop and the client agreed that the design needed to be immediately striking to the goal-oriented suits and wandering tourists alike."

And striking it is! Drawing from the nearby New York Public Library in Bryant Park, the shop is lined in sepia-toned full-sized photos of books printed on tiles. But that's not the crazy part. What's most disorienting is the fact that these bookshelves are flipped sideways and then displayed not just on the wall but on the floor and ceiling, creating an "Alice in Wonderland" effect that just might make you yack up that bagel...
