In this article we are going to tell you about one part of the big auto race from Russia to Georgia, to be more precise, about the Republic of Kalmykia and its capital – Elista.
The whole route of the auto race.
The landscapes on the way to Elista were quite boring and monotonous – fields, forests and watermelon street vendors…

Entering the Republic of Kalmykia.

And here is Elista itself.

Once, Elista held a Chess Olympiad, but it was very long ago…

Clouds there are very nice!

Local citizens.

Elista is considered to be the capital of chess. But actually, there is no great chessboard with beautiful fretted pieces – just a 5×5 meter field with cheap plastic chess pieces – like in average hotels in Turkey or Egypt…

Elista's pride is the largest Buddhist temple in the republic – "the Golden Cloister of Buddha Shakjamuni" where the highest in Europe Buddha statue is situated.

The temple was built 5 years ago and represents a gorgeous building, where public prayers, rituals and festive divine services are held.

But the quality of the temple is quite low – some walls have not been completed yet, and somewhere tile is already peeling off…

The worship hall with the 12-meters-high Buddha statue. The statue is covered with tinsel and incrusted with diamonds.

The most honorable job in Kalmykia is welder! A welder will always find what to do – for example to weld weird constructions from pipes of different section.

Finally the trip to Kalmykia is over…
