Re: [www.keralites.net] Reality Shows -We need it??

Hi there,

Though this topic has been discussed few times in the past, everybody tried to concentrate on the "revenue aspect" and the "viewers being taken for a ride" in such shows.
But ultimately, the majority (of the lot who respopnded)  sided with the view that, "if you want , you watch.. otherwise switch off the TV". From the begnning, I had been a strong opponent of the "reality, where our small kids and immature youngsters" being made a "show pieces" in the "reality shows". Not only in reality shows, even in some serials, and movies, we see small kids being misused "to bring in the crowds". Even some movies has gone to the extent of incorporating vulgar scenes using kids, which does not have any connection with the story of the movie !
wat to do ? The "reality of the situation" has been that "relaity shows" has come to stay, and even thousands and thousands of protests being made in the columns like this
is not going to change the scenario, as there is nobody "to bell the cat".

The TV channel is minting money out of that and ...so also the government ......Then who will bother about the negative aspects of those who have got ousted from these shows ?
All are eagerly awaiting the FINAL and the NEXT EPISODE !...
"Sambhavaamy yugey yugey" ...we are helpless mute spectators....wat else ?

Regards to all.

Dear All,
Instead of just passing on forwarding mails , Can we make this group , a discussion forum for relevant issues? Can we make our society to open eyes  and react to this stupid acts ?
See the stories from reality shows??? Are we really need this to happen? Music and Dance are divine arts.. For selling it, we need to brand our Kids?? We heard a lot about "STAR SINGER OR DANCER" Winners!!! Have anyone ever thought of Losers or eliminated contestants, where they are going? What is happening to their confidence and further involvement in their talents? Read the stories down quoted from Newspapers-:
Over the years as reality shows grew in popularity, many incidents of these programmes leading to suicides also surfaced.
Jhansi, Nov 12: Unable to bear the humiliation meted out to him on the reality TV show 'Rakhi Ka Insaaf', hosted by Rakhi Sawant, a 25-year-old has committed suicide. According to the family of the deceased, Laxman went into a state of depression after participating in the reality show. The youngster, who was humiliated and called names by the anchor in the programme aired on Oct 23, reportedly stopped eating due to the mental turmoil he was undergoing, subsequently leading to his death. The family is yet to file a police case, but is planning on taking legal action.

In Sep 2009, a 32-year-old woman committed suicide after watching an actress participate in a television reality show 'Sach Ka Saamna'. The woman hung herself from the ceiling after watching actress Roopa Ganguly spill the beans on the Indian version of 'Moment of Truth'. According to the police, Pallavi felt her life was similar to Roopa's in many ways and that she had failed as a daughter, wife and mother, leading her into taking the extreme step.

In Jan 2010, media report of a 11-year old Mumbai girl, who was a participant of a dance reality TV show - 'Boogie Woogie', committing suicide emerged.
The distressing phenomenon is not limited only to the Indian sub-continent. As recent as Nov 8, reports of a one-time contestant on 'The Bachelorette' reality TV show committing suicide off a highway in Southern California, US, emerged. In his suicide note to his parents, he explained that he was suffering from depression and felt suicide was the only way out.
Please Comment with your opinion. I feel reality shows really inspires our youth to continue their arts passion. But isn't negative comments reducing confidence? And to build an appearance what all "dress up" a child/teenage need to manage?? Winners…go happy.. Losers….?? ?Where they go? What's happening to them??
Regards
Anamika
