Shammi Kapoor's life in pics
Veteran actor Shammi Kapoor died at 5:50 am this morning in Mumbai.
Suffering from renal failure, the actor had been hospitalised a month ago.
The funeral for the Bollywood legend will be held tomorrow (August 15) at 11 am at Ban Ganga crematorium, Mumbai.
Here's a look his remarkable journey so far...
He was born on October 21, 1931 in Mumbai as Shamsher Raj Kapoor to Prithvi Raj Kapoor and Ramsarni Mehra.

Shammi spent his first few years with dad and legendary actor Prithviraj Kapoor who was deeply involved with the New Theatre Studios in Calcutta (now Kolkata). Shammi did his schooling in Calcutta and then Mumbai where they finally settled.
He did college for a while but soon left to join Prithvi Theatres. He started his career doing small roles in his father's films.
Shammi Kapoor married fellow actress Geeta Bali in 1955 and were blessed with two kids son Aditya Raj and daughter Kanchan.
Tragedy struck Shammi during the filming of his hit film Teesri Manzil when Geeta died of small pox leaving him with his two kids. This led to a brief romance with Mumtaaz but that didn't last long and finally in 1969 he married Neela Devi Gohil of the royal family of Bhavnagar.
Talking about his professional life. Shammi's first movie as lead actor was Jeevan Jyoti (1953). His early movies were Rail ka Dibba (1953), Laila Majnu (1953), Shama Parwana (1954), Miss Coca Cola (1955) andRangeen Raatein (1956).
But it was Tumsa Nahin Dekha opposite actress Ameeta that established him as an actor and he became popular for his carefree and stylish playboy image.
Dil Dekhe Dekho got us the popular Shammi-Asha Parekh Jodi and it also cemented his casanova image.
Junglee in 1961 mad him a household name and his song Yahoo, chahe koi mujhe junglee kahe became a rage and is still one of the best songs ever.
Shammi quickly became every director's favourite romantic hero.
Shammi was paired with all the leading actresses of the time. Other than Asha, he worked with Sharmila Tagore, Saira Banu, Sadhana and Rajshree.
The Sixties were the golden years of his career. He turned out hit after hit including Teesri Manzil,Professor, Kashmir ki Kali, Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya, Dil Tera Diwana, Bluffmaster, Janwar and Rajkumar.
Brahmachari in 1968 opposite Mumtaaz won him the Filmfare Best Actor award.
Legendary singer Mohammed Rafi was his favourite playback singer.
His style of dancing became a rage in songs like Yahoo (Junglee, O Haseena Zulfonwali (Teesr Manzil andAaj kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche (Brahmachari.
Shammi began to lose some of his shine in the 70s and Andaz (1971) was one of his last hits.
In the 80s he shifted focus to doing supporting actor roles and in 1982 he bagged the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for Vidhata. He was also seen in Zameer, Prem Rog, Hero, Yeh Vaada Raha, Betaab, Ahista Ahista, Parvarish and Rocky.
He was seen in Aur Pyar Ho Gaya (1996), Kareeb (1998), Jaanam Samjha Karo (1999) and East is East(1999). His last movie was Sandwich in 2006.
Shammi Kapoor was awarded Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995 and Phalke Legend Actor Award in 2009 for his contribution to the Hindi film industry.
Shammi was very tech-savvy and became Bollywood's first internet user with the Kapoor family website he launched in the '90s. He is also the founder and chairman of Internet Users Community of India.
