Heil Kitler! Staff at an animal charity have named an abandoned kitten "Kitler" - because she bears an uncanny resemblance to the Nazi leader. The six-week-old cat - which was abandoned at the roadside - earned the moniker because of her distinctive black moustache. Staff at Wood Green animal shelter in Godmanchester, Cambs., say they are struggling to find her a loving home because of her unusual markings.

This deer picked a fight with a plastic model he thought was a real-life rival. The animal attacked after spotting the fake deer apparently trespassing on its territory in Western Montana. The buck fronted up the plastic model, and when the model showed no sign of stepping down, the deer launched at it with his impressive antlers, ramming it until it lay in bits, its head knocked off.

A cow stumbles upon a group of crocodiles. The animal appeared to walk directly into the jaws of death after wandering away from its herd in search of some tasty vegetation. But it appeared to have a lucky escape from the croc species, known as caimans, and was left alone. Photographer Robert Mooney snapped the shot in the Pantanal wetlands, Brazil. The 50-year-old, from Arlington, in Virginia, America, was amazed the cow dared to stroll among the crocs with such apparent ease.

Britain's fattest orangutan has lost a fifth of her body weight after changing her ways. Tubby Oshine tipped the scales at 100kg - more than double her natural weight - and after switching to a new regime has lost 20kg in the last 11 months. The 14-year-old ape has cut out sweets, jelly and marshmallows and instead tucks into a healthy diet of fruit, vegetables and plenty of exercise. Oshine arrived at Monkey World in Dorset last year from Johannesburg in South Africa having been kept as a pet for 13 years. Her sedentary and unnatural lifestyle meant her weight rocketed...

...Now following intensive work by keepers at the rescue centre, Oshine has lost a fifth of her weight, is exercising, scaling a 20-metre climbing frame and has even adopted an orphaned baby orangutan named Silvestre.

Pretty bouquets of edible flowers were given to primates at Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks in Kent as part of an enrichment programme.Gibbons, langurs and gorillas were given bunches of edible violas with the aim of providing additional sensory stimulation as the flowers taste, smell and look different to their usual diet...

Research and enrichment officer Mark Kingston-Jones said: "The langurs and gibbons were very curious when they saw the bouquets - even though the taste did not appeal to some they were all interested in the different scents that the flowers provided. This enabled us to give them sensory enrichment through smell and colour."
