If your wife and children were on resident visa, if they do not return in 6 months , the visa will be automatically expired. But if they want to visit KSA again, they will have to pay fine for the months delayed.
Normally a resident visa holder should be back from motherland to KSA or any GCC. within 6 months
If you have no plan to bring your family back to KSA , the Resident visa of ur family will be automatically cancelled after 6 months till renewed next.
When ur wife and children left KSA they sealed EXIT in pass port so no legal problem is there.
