[www.keralites.net] Dell readying 7-inch tablet
Dell readying 7-inch tablet Dell is readying its second Android-based tablet, according to CEO Michael Dell.
He gave few details other than that it would have a 7-inch screen during his mention of it on stage at Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco. No price, name, shipping date, or tech specifications were provided.
Dell did not immediately respond to a request for further details. It could be that the device Dell spoke of today is the rumored "Looking Glass" tablet we saw earlier this year, which is purported to be a 7-inch tablet running Android.
The 7-inch tablet would join Dell's 5-inch Streak, an Android tablet that went on sale earlier this summer in the UK, and last month in the US.
Currently it sells for US$299 with a two-year contract with AT&T, or US$599 without a contract. It's only been available to US buyers through Dell.com, but the Streak will be hitting store shelves at Best Buy "soon", Dell said.
Dell's two tablets join a growing number of devices intent on challenging the Apple iPad's dominant position in the nascent touchscreen tablet market. Apple has sold more than 3 million iPads since the device went on sale in early April. Besides Dell, Samsung, Archos, and Hewlett-Packard have begun selling, or announced their intention to develop, iPad-like devices. Research In Motion is also reportedly readying a tablet for BlackBerry users. |
